What is Google Wave?

Jun 16, 2009

Google Wave as Google states is a personal communication and collaboration tool [also a documentation tool],this is an open source[i.e Code made public] tool which as per Google has been done not only to contribute to the internet butalso developers around the whole world participating in it and making it much better even before it is released.Yeah! This is the power of open source which off course The Microsoft would never understand.
Google Wave is an HTML 5 App which has been developed by Larse and Ranse Ransmusen [Pardon if I got the name incorrectly spelled]the same guys who made Google maps.
ss1Google Wave is basically a browser which uses its own protocol[WAVE] . Wave has a sort of online email feature which is quite interactive,by interactive I mean it shows each word on the receivers screen even if you are still typing[unlike Google talk which shows typing....] not only you can use it to email but also chat with other friends who are online without pressing button for a conference.Almost sort of virtual talk between a group of people where anyone can participate or leave out.(There are also features to keep your conversation private)You only need to drag drop to add participants to your conversation and unlike emails the new participants can view whole conversation even when person wasn’t involved using a playback feature which shows the reply’s like a video, you can even have selected playbacks showing only a persons additions to the conversation and this also goes for how the email reached a state which you recieved.Wave has a tree structure of messages where in a user can take any branch and view the whole tree .For adding attachments you only need to drag drop items into wave just as you drag drop into another folder[This feature might be added to HTML 5 coding standards],the amazing feature is that as soon as you drag drop the reciever gets to see the thumbnails almost instantly even before the full images upload.
Wave is a client system which uses a new wave protocol which can be monitored for debugging and other purposes for developers and coders.
Wave has more in store for website owners or web developers which essentially has been developed keeping in mind the increasing trend in blogging.Google Wave has an amazing feature where in one can directly use wave and use simple drag drop to make a post or upload images,Maps onto your blogs or Twitters .This is done using embedding API’s and I am sure that BLoggers would have much more in store once the Google wave finally releases.
