A Twitter Administrative employee’s account was hacked and was sold/mailed to the blogs by some unknown hacker(Hacker Croll). The hacker was able to gain access to the employee’s Google Apps,Docs ,Calender and other important stuff which had information on Twitter’s latest projects and financial information.

The blogs which posted the confidential material includes some of the top blogs as Techcrunch which made about 310 bits of material public.Twitter is planning to file a legal suit and would also target those who published this content.

“Many in the technology industry said this latest episode points to the potent reminder of how much information is stored in the cloud and the vulnerability or otherwise of that data.

The hacker has claimed to have wanted to teach people to be more careful and in a message to the French blog Korben, wrote that his attack could make internet users “conscious that no one is protected on the net.“[BBC]

This brings us to the vulnerability of the cloud computing systems and how important it is to have a secure data connection .

Found an Interesting Video on Youtube on How to hack someone’s Twitter Account:

“Some users’ PCs have been infected with a variant of the Koobface malware. This malware sends bogus tweets when the user logs into Twitter. We are currently suspending all accounts that we detect sending such bogus tweets. If we suspend your account, we will send you an email notifying you of the suspension. This email also includes tips for removing the malware from your PC.”

“This is apparently the second attack given by Koobface in Twitter, the first one used only three different TinyURLs with infected users; this malware mutation gave the infection a longer life than the previous one, that also appeared on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Hi5, Friendster and LiveJournal.” [Source:Crenk]

Twitter is now becomming a necessityfor many people and companies who belive that marketing thwough twitter can help them increase their sales, and establish a relation with their clients. Many companies are now switching to twitter for small, fast and secure messaging. But Twitter is now confronting a problem which emails had.

As Twitter has evolved over a period of time ,Twitter users started using hashtags – a # followed by a unique bit of text – to help them follow conversations. And these hash tags are increasingly being used to spam. This abusing of hash tags might just proove out to be the Achilles heel for Twitter which is known for opennes(which has resulted in its exponential growth).

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone has accepted: “We don’t filter out offensive content from search. There’s a bug involving hashtagged words with more than 16 characters.”

Upscale furniture maker Habitat was caught out last month when marketers working for the company used hashtags, even ones related to the disputed Iranian election, to promote its “totally desirable Spring collection”. Twitter users cried foul, and Habitat apologised.”

[Source:Guardian]

Social media blog Mashable wrote: “Trending topics are a great way to find out what’s hot in the Twitterverse, but they’re also a haven for malicious hackers and spammers.”

Though Twitter has censoring techniques but these are not fruitful in case of spams. Twitter might have to change its strategy ,a simple strategy as marking of emails as spam was adopted for emails can be a good example.

Twitter has now started showing paid ads on user’s home pages, these ads can range from language to zone specific. The ads have a heading and a short description and they can be identified by “Sponsored definition” written below them just as Google Ads.The new, paid ads have been placed in the same place as the previous, non-paid ads.

Bloggers have verified Twitter showing paid ads by changing language prefrences and the ads language also changes,
