Which is the fastest smartphone? As the competition among the smart phones increases by releasing of a new smartphone almost every month it has become tougher to decide this.Recently PCworld conducted a series of informal tests on three of these smartphones which top the list currently: iPhone 3G S,Palm Pre and the Nokia N97.Though Configuration of all three of them was matchable with Nokia N97 trailing but the performance results showed that their is a twist in the tail.

iPhone 3G S: 600 Mhz processor, 256 mb ram

Palm pre: 600 Mhz processor,256 Mb ram

Nokia N97: 434 Mhz processor,128 Mb ram.

The Following are the details of tests conducted along with the results of these tests ,(To watch the original video follow the link at the end of this article):

1.Power on Test: How quickly a Phone starts

Results: iPhone 3G S(22 seconds),Nokia N97(66s) & Palm Pre(96s)

2. Opening Email Inbox: How quickly you can check your email(Gmail for testing) account,N97 has live feed widgets which refresh realtime.

Results: Nokia N97(1.3seconds) ,iPhone 3G S(1.4s) & Palm Pre(7.5s)

3. Adding a Contact: Each phone requires 2 taps and how quickly you are able to add a contact.

Results: iPhone 3G S(2.4 seconds),Nokia N97(2.5s) & Palm Pre(5.9s)

4. Booted Associated press Application: This was a third party app on all three phones,Test tried to show how quickly a third party app starts and loads content.

Results: iPhone 3G S(3.8 seconds),Nokia N97(15.1s) & Palm Pre(15.4s)

The results showed that iPhone 3G S is clearly leading and Nokia 97 despite having a lower configuration closely followed the iPhone in many cases.Though there are many variables involved like 3G network, OS platform but the mandate was clear its iPhone 3G S the Fastest Smartphone available. However the Palm pre trailed in most of them but the interface and the net surfing was quite comfortable than other contenders.

Check out the video here

Though these are some of the informal tests but speed is an important parameter when you are deciding on buying smartphones.

Samsung has recently launched RAM’s with a capacity of 32 GB,though these RAM’s are intended towards servers and not for our desktops or laptops. These Memory Modules are new 1.35 volt 32GB module for servers which perform at a 20% better throughput compared to previous 1.5 volt modules and a lower power consumption .

The 32 GB Ram basically made up of 72 of those 4Gb memory chips, which are lined up in rows of nine quad-die packaged 16Gb DDR3s mounted on each side of the circuit board. Some believe this is a huge advancement in server technology, as with 32GB DIMMs, Intel’s Nehalem-EX platform will be able to have 512GB of DDR3 per *SOCKET* (16 DIMMS per socket * 32GB)! that is TWO TERABYTES of DDR3 on a four-socket server. So even a “low-end” 4-socket version of Nehalem-EX will have
- 32 cores
- 64 threads
- 96MB of L3 cache
- 2048 GB of DDR3 SDRAM running over 16 memory channels
- 16 Quickpath channels

The lower power consumption on each module could mean huge savings for servers.Though this would mean new technology for servers but our Home PC’s are still far away from the 32 GB rams which currently have 8GB DIMMs.
