Well, this is highly debatable whether pico projectors are the next big thing in the cell phone market. One thing that I know is that they would be one of the coolest features which I would like my cell phone to have. The only disadvantage I see of a cell phone is that it is a gadget and cannot function as a full big screen television, but PICO Projector would solve this problem only if image quality can be increased . Televisions are bulky costly and whole lot of burden , on your pockets as well as its not a gadget. This is what reuters article says:
“While commercial products with so-called pico projectors are still relatively rare, Microvision and rivals such as Texas Instruments Inc and 3M Co were promising strong prospects for pico at the Las Vegas show which ends on Sunday.
Microvision showed off a stand-alone projector that looked like a big bar of soap and projected crisp video images using laser technology.
Its big hope is to embed the technology in a range of consumer electronics including cameras and phones.”
After high quality camera’s I think this should mark the trend.
