If you try searching on the internet you will get plethora of articles on how to save your laptop battery, I have read most of them before writing this article but i rarely found any of them of much use, reason being that laptop batteries would always be connected to the laptops and we cannot stop or minimise usage of
laptop ( which off course contradicts our judgement of buying a laptop in the first place). Most of the times I found in the articles that whenever a battery charges, it looses its capacity to hold the same amount of charge as in the first place, the charge lost is very small in amount but this leads the battery to discharge quicklier and recharge once again . So the suggestion which comes out is whenever you are connected directly remove the battery and store it in a cool place. But I really dont think that is a good idea.
Now here are some good pointers which I came across:
1. Lower your brightness of the LCD screen and use power saver options .
2. Make sure most of the times the laptop is kept in a cool place(not Coolest ,refrigerator etc) .
3. Always keep laptop on a wooden or a plain surface or in such a position that the heat vent doesnt get obstructed as this leads to heating up of laptop and heat is one of the biggest factor which decreases the charge carrying capacity of the battery.
4. Use Wifi,Bluetooth and other wireless services only when they are required .
5. Remove any external flash,USB or CD/DVD roms if not in use.
6. Lower the number of background processes, by removing unnecessary ones from the task manager.
Basically for both point 4 and point 5 along with point 6,main aim is to decrease CPU usage which is the primary source of heat generation, doing this would not only help in battery to last longer but also make your laptop work faster, even a larger RAM would help in the same direction.
7. While recharging of battery make sure there aren’t enough fluctuations which cause serious damage to the internal battery structure.
8. Getting an extra battery you don’t use often is not a good option. The battery will lose its ability to recharge over time even if it’s not being used.
9.Do not let the charge in the battery go all the way down before recharging. It is recommended that you plug the AC adaptor in when the battery gets down to about 20%.
Though you can find many but these were the one which I found useful.
