Hi, I just had the same problem with my new G4 phone. I had the phone too close to the desk lamp and the phone got overheated.after re positioning the phone to a cooler spot on the desk-- it works fine now, with the installed sim card. Didn't even turn the phone off, either.
Thanks for the advice.

Thank You Longstrider. I wouldn't have thought of that but that was exactly the fix i required. My expensive 'brick mp3 player' has now become a phone again.

Just got the same message and i too think the phone has killed the sim card. it was struggling to get a signal in the corner of the house, and poof!, no sim for my important webex conference call. i was able to still use skype so all was not lost. carrier sending me a new sim tomorrow - i will be back to share my iphone experience.

I had the same problem. Took apart the phone and it turns out that there is a minute microswitch at the bottom of the sim card slot that detects if the simcard holder is in. I just added a small bit of pvc tape to the bottom of the sim card holder to help activate the switch and hey presto it has worked ever since

Strange thing. My SIM card failure occurred when I was in a place where the signal bar level was extremely low and cutting in and out. It almost seems like the fact that the phone was struggling so hard to get a signal fried the SIM card.

I don't have an old SIM to put in my iPhone, so I guess I'll have to go to my carrier to see if a new SIM card will work.

I agree.....I have had an iPhone for two years with no trouble. We purchased a house to fix up in an area I do drive by BUT do not stay. When I am at the fix up house for a period of several hours my phone said no sim card. I drive away and reboot the phone (not a cold reboot) and it is fine! It has happened ALMOST every time I am at that house for a few hours!
